Many cancer survivors wear bald with pride and poise. Bald is beautiful, of course it is. But for some of us, we don’t feel beautiful as bald. And that voice needs to be in the conversation, too.
While a massive emphasis is placed on beating cancer, feeling confident after hair loss is an important part of cancer care and treatment. Hair loss can affect a person’s mental health – elevating stress and anxiety, and reducing quality of life. At Tymeless Necessity Hair our mission is to lighten the stress of cancer survivors by helping them grow new confidence – literally!
Global statistics indicate that one in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day. In South Africa, breast cancer affects 27 in 100 000 women. Losing hair during chemotherapy adds another struggle, especially for women, who are cultured into believing that long luscious hair is synonymous with beauty and femininity.
100 Percent human hair is prized over synthetic hair not only because of its softness, texture, and longevity, but because it looks real (because it is real)!
For cancer survivors, 100 percent human hair wigs and hairpieces are an obvious choice. Compared with synthetic hair, human hair is also finer, naturally airy, bouncy, light, and can be styled and curled very easily.
While losing one’s hair may be frightening, many women feel confident after hair loss by trying styles and colours in a wig that they would never have dared to try with their own hair. Wigs always look good – even when you’re feeling low. With our beautiful weather, it’s simply not practical for cancer survivors to wear hats or scarves all season long. When choosing a wig, comfort and subtle beauty are two characteristics that cancer patients truly appreciate.
Working with CANSA, Tymeless Necessity Hair has also developed several hairpieces with cancer survivors in mind, which are designed to be fitted and worn without clips, combs, or messy glues. This is a godsend for any wig wearer, but most especially for cancer patients or those suffering from hair loss due to medical conditions such as alopecia.Â
Tymeless Necessity Hair also boasts another first: the introduction of pre-cut/pre-styled (ready-to-wear) wigs to the public, eliminating the guesswork of how the wig will fit, and also saving consumers a great deal of time.
Wait, there’s more! We are also proud to announce our ‘stay-put’ products, which remain comfortably on your head for up to six weeks, while your own roots are treated with strengthening serums. During this time, your wig can be washed and styled as if the hair was your own.
We are often asked to create hairpieces using our client’s own natural hair. This is completely possible so long as we have enough hair to work with. It’s important to keep in mind that hair loss occurs because chemotherapy targets healthy cells, as well as cancer cells.
Hair follicles are some of the fastest-growing cells in the body (our cells divide every 23 to 72 hours), but as the chemo does its work against cancer cells, it also destroys hair cells.
If you are using your natural hair for a wig or hairpiece, we encourage you to book an appointment with one of our stylists who can cut your hair before you begin chemotherapy.
Now it’s time to browse our fabulous range of wigs for cancer! Similarly, if you have any questions regarding the products we offer, do not hesitate to get in contact and one of our team members will be happy to help!Â
