Understanding the profound emotional impact of hair loss during cancer treatment, Trudi decided to donate her own hair in 2023 to Tymeless Necessity Hair, a gesture reflecting her first-hand knowledge of the importance of a wig in a cancer patient’s life.

The Process of Hair Donation for Cancer Wigs

Hair donation for cancer wigs is a generous and impactful gesture, but it’s more than just cutting and giving away your locks. The process is undertaken with meticulous care to ensure the donated hair retains its quality and serves its purpose for the recipient.

Length Requirements

Typically, donated hair must be a certain length, usually a minimum of 25.4 to 30.48 centimetres (10-12 inches). This ensures the hair is long enough to create a wig that provides sufficient coverage.

Hair Condition

Donated hair should be healthy, preferably not overly treated with chemicals like dyes, perms, or bleach. Virgin hair, or hair that hasn’t been chemically treated, is often preferred.

Packing and Sending

Hair must be washed, dried, and secured in multiple ponytails or braids before cutting. This ensures the hair remains aligned in one direction. Once cut, it’s placed in a plastic bag and then in a padded envelope for shipping to Tymeless Necessity Hair.

Transformation

Upon receiving the hair, specialists at Tymeless Necessity Hair process and treat the strands. The hair undergoes sterilisation and is then hand-woven into a mesh cap, creating a natural-looking wig.
