SYNTHETIC HAIR EXTENSIONS VS. REAL HUMAN HAIR EXTENSIONS
Before we get into the various types of hair extension application methods, it’s essential to understand that hair extensions are available in two types: real human hair extensions and synthetic hair extensions. So, what’s the distinction between the two?
Extensions made of human hair are exactly what they sound like. From top to bottom, they’re made of real human hair collected from a donor. At the time of collection, all of the cuticles (the outer layer of the hair) are intact and running in the same direction. This virtually eliminates tangling and ensures that the extensions remain smooth and silky for the duration of their use.
On the other hand, synthetic hair is made up of a variety of synthetic fibres that are blended – usually very fine plastic made to look like real human hair.
Synthetic fibres come in various qualities, but they are generally stiff and move differently than human hair, so they don’t blend in as well as natural hair. They can have a wiry or coarse texture to them. Because real hair looks and feels like real hair (because it is!), it blends in more naturally with your own.
Tymeless Necessity Hair is committed to providing high-quality products, which is why we only sell 100% real hair extensions.
Styling & Colouring
Human hair extensions can be treated in the same way as your own hair. Straightening, curling, blow-drying, colouring, and applying hair products are all options.
Synthetic hair cannot be dyed because most dyes contain ammonia or bleach, which would cause the synthetic hair to deteriorate. Furthermore, because heat can damage synthetic hair, you can’t style it the same way you would natural hair, so curling irons, straighteners, and blow dryers are out, as they will melt or severely damage the hair.
Other factors that can harm synthetic hair extensions include the sun, friction, and harsh hair products.

Let’s get into the different types of extension applications now that we’ve gotten the real vs. synthetic debate out of the way!
CLIP-IN HAIR EXTENSIONS
Clip-in Hair Extensions are a great way to add length and volume to your hair.
Clip-ins are made up of a strand of contoured pieces held together by fabric or silicone at the base. This base has clips attached to it that are ready to use. All you have to do is clip the pieces into your natural hair! Each clip is simple to open and close.
Clip-in hair extensions are the least permanent type of extensions because they can be taken off and put back on at any time.
Clip-ins take about 5 to 15 minutes to apply at home. Clip-in hair extensions are also the least damaging because they don’t require any of the chemicals mentioned above, heat, pressure, or other installation methods – they simply clip into your hair with ease, causing no damage to your natural hair.
How Long Can They Be Used For?
Clip-ins can last anywhere from three to six 6 months, up to a year, and sometimes even longer, with proper care and regular wear.
Clip-in extensions from Tymeless Necessity Hair are made with 100% Remy human hair and high quality.
TAPE-IN HAIR EXTENSIONS
Hair extensions that are taped in are exactly what they sound like. On either side of your own hair, the extensions are pre-taped and then taped/glued together. Tape-in hair extensions are typically applied by a hairdresser because they must be aligned with the roots and are applied with a heated tool that heats the glue.
You’d also have to have them removed (using a glue remover) and then reinstalled. Naturally, applying heat to your roots, as well as any adhesive product like tape or glue, can cause damage to your hair. This procedure takes about 40 minutes to an hour to complete, and the extensions can be reused if they are in good condition.
Tape-in extensions look more natural because they lie almost completely flush against the head, whereas other types have thicker bases that may stick out.
How Long Can They Be Used For?
Tape-ins are a type of semi-permanent installation. They usually last four to eight weeks before needing to be removed and reapplied. However, just like any other hair, it is dependent on how well you care for them and how quickly they grow. Human hair tape-ins should last anything between three to five months.
FUSION & PRE-BONDED HAIR EXTENSIONS
Fusion hair extensions (also known as bonding or pre-bonded) adhere to natural hair with glue or other adhesives. Pre-bonded hair extensions are applied by a hairdresser and take approximately three to four hours to apply.
Fusion extensions may not be suitable for all clients because this application method is very damaging to natural hair, so your hairdresser may advise you against it.
The procedure involves using a machine that resembles a hot glue gun to adhere the hair to individual strands of natural hair.
How Long Can They Be Used For?
The extensions will need to be repositioned every two to three months as your natural hair grows. This method can also cause hair loss, breakage, and scalp irritation due to the numerous chemicals in the glue.
MICROLINK HAIR EXTENSIONS
Microlink (or microbead) hair extensions and micro loop hair extensions are other names for microlink hair extensions. These are applied by using a small silicone-lined bead to attach tiny wefts of hair to small sections of natural hair. The bead is then secured to the hair with a special tool and tightened to keep it in place.
Microlink hair extensions can damage the hair if not installed correctly by a professional, even though they do not use heat or glue. The bead may be too tightened, causing pressure and pulling at the roots, and the hair may be pulled out if not removed properly. This method takes about two to four hours to complete.
How Long Can They Be Used For?
Microlink hair extensions, like fusion hair extensions, must be repositioned every 2β3 months as natural hair grows and the microbeads move away from the scalp. Microlink hair extensions are considered semi-permanent and can last up to four months in most cases.
WIGS & HAIRPIECES
Wigs and hairpieces by Tymeless Necessity Hair come in various styles and are applied topically to the hair. Wigs that are long and full are designed to cover your entire head. Wigs can be worn for various reasons, including hair loss, balding, or simply changing your appearance.
Hairpieces are a little different because they are often in the shape of a bun, ponytail, scrunchie, or hair tie, allowing you to simply place them on top of your own hair.
Hairpieces can be used to add thickness to a thinning area of your head or to create a different hairstyle, such as a super long, full ponytail with just one piece to add thickness.
How Long Can They Be Used For?
It depends on how you care for them. If you take good care of your real human full wig and hairpieces, they can last for many years.
