Is your stomach in a knot over your matted human hair wig? Don’t worry, Tymeless Necessity Hair will smooth the problem out in no time!
While 100 percent human hair wigs are the best quality wigs on the market, that doesn’t mean they won’t knot like bio hair.
It’s no secret that maintaining long and beautiful human hair wig requires good care. But there is no doubt that human hair wig knotting is a very common occurrence. Have you ever wondered why your human hair wigs tangles and what you could do to fix and prevent it?
“Matting can be caused by a variety of factors, including hair structure, wig quality, brushing frequency, wind exposure, and wig care,” explains Rani Chetty, founder of Tymeless Necessity Hair.
“Failing to properly care for your human hair wig – no matter how premium the hair is – will eventually cause it to tangle and mat.”
How To Detangle A Human Hair Wig
Human hair wigs are becoming increasingly popular because people have the desire to change their hairstyles as a way to reflect their own individuality, add length and fullness to their actual locks, and play with colours and styles – whenever, wherever!
When it comes to quality, human hair wigs outwin synthetic wigs every time because they provide a highly natural look and a silky feel. Most real hair wigs are professionally styled or trimmed to give the exact look required. Human hair wigs have versatility and can be washed and heat-styled just like your own hair.
While there are so many advantages to wearing a real hair wig, wigs made with premium hair can still become tangled and matted just like your natural hair. It doesn’t matter if you buy the best virgin hair on the market; you’re guaranteed to get some knots along the way.
But don’t worry; with a few simple products and a little patience, you can bring your tangled wig back to life. We’ve compiled a list of techniques, tricks, and products that will assist you in detangling your human hair wig.
Things You Will Need
- A little time and patience
- A wig head or stand
- Wide teeth comb
- Wig brush
- Human hair wig detangler spray
- Good quality, paraben/sulfate-free conditioner.
- Some good old fashion sunlight
Top tip: While it’s not essential, a wig stand can be a lifesaver when it comes to keeping your human hair wig in the best shape and condition when you’re not wearing it. A wig stand also makes it easier to comb your wig through from root to end.
If you don’t have a wig stand you can use a hat stand, or make your own wig stand on a budget by using a tall jar or candle holder and a 2-litre bottle. Simply tape the bottle onto the candle holder or jar and you’re good to go!
Step 1: Submerge Your Wig In Warm Water And Let It Soak
Generally speaking, wet hair is far easier to detangle than dry hair. Fill your basin with some cold water and let your human hair wig sit in water for about 5 to 10 minutes. Hot or warm water opens up the cuticles, which leads to frizziness. The cold water helps seal the cuticles and will close them up.
If your wig needs cleansing, add a few drops of paraben/sulfate-free shampoo and swish the water around the wig, ensuring all the hair strands are submerged. Washing your wig is not only great for detangling but also helps restore your wig’s vitality and luster. Rinse the wig with clean cold water before you begin the combing process.
Step 2: Use A Good Quality Conditioner
A good conditioner is the trick to loosen the tangles. This cannot be said enough!
To begin, fill a spray bottle with room temperature water about a fourth of the way full. After that, fill the bottle with the conditioner until it’s roughly 90% full. Think of it as three parts water to one part conditioner, and make sure to thoroughly swirl or shake the bottle.
Another option is to use a leave-in conditioner; these products do not require dilution with water. All you have to do now is put a palmful of conditioner into your hands and work it through the human hair wig thoroughly. Make sure that the tips of your wig are saturated. Finally, spray some of the conditioner water/mixture on the bottom tips of your wig with your spray bottle. This extra step ensures that your human hair is free of split ends and dried tips.
Thoroughly cleaned and conditioned hair is silky and smooth, and resists tangles, especially is your human hair wig is anywhere close to being straight. One of the functions of a good conditioner is to smooth down the cuticle layer of the hair shaft. Remember a smooth cuticle layer won’t grab onto the neighbouring hair strands.
As there are no oils that are self-producing on your wigs, a rinse-through conditioner will not do the trick. So it is vitally important that the conditioner is left in to seep through the cuticles.
Step 3: Brush Out Knots With A Wide Tooth Wig Brush
Take your wide-tooth comb and softly brush out any knots in the hair, starting at the roots and working your way to the tips. This process could take up to an hour, depending on how long your human hair wig is, but this is where patience comes into play.
It’s unlikely that you’ll spend more than 30 minutes ensuring that all of the knots are untangled. This is not a procedure that should be rushed. It is critical to exercise extreme caution because yanking the route would just exacerbate the tangles.
Step 4: Rinse Your Human Hair Wig One Last Time
Do you want to make sure that when you’ve done brushing out all of the knots and your human hair wig is completely dry, it’s not greasy? Then it’s best that you lightly rinse it with clean water. This approach will help dilute the conditioner even more and lessen the greasiness that remains when it dries.
You don’t want to totally soak the hair again since too much of the conditioner will be rinsed away, and you’ll have to start over. A quick splash of water will do the trick.
Step 5: Allow Your Wig To Air Dry
Allowing your wig to air dry for several hours is recommended. Normally, it’s best to leave the unit on top of the wig head and allow it to dry naturally. Keep an eye on it and give the human hair wig a light comb through as time goes on.
Your wig should be totally dry in no more than two hours. If you’re in a hurry, you can use a blow dryer, but make sure it’s set to a very low temperature.
Remember These Top Tips
- Do not sleep with the wig wear on.
- Store it properly in its case or hang it on a wig head when you are not using it.
- Use the proper mild shampoo and conditioner, wash it regularly.
- Moisture it, and minimise its exposure to harsh sunlight, wind, saltwater or pool chemicals.
- Limit your use of hot tools.
- Don’t attempt to use bleach on your human hair wig. Rather speak to a professional colourist at Tymeless Necessity Hair who can lighten your wig to your desired shade.
